This summer, Napa Valley College Department of Music and Festival Napa Valley partner to provide a unique opportunity for students of all ages to learn more about music while enjoying live performances. MUSI 112 – Survey & Appreciation of Music (official course description below) will be offered as a part of the Summer session of Napa Valley College. Students enrolled in this course will enjoy both preparatory lectures and activities online which will enable them to have a deeper understanding of the elements of music and in person meetings at Festival Napa Valley performances where they will hear and music performances.
Though this course satisfies a general education core requirement in Arts and Humanities, and transfers to both CSU and UC schools, it is intended for anyone interested in knowing more about music, regardless of their educational goals.
Course Description:
This course covers and provides the foundations, vocabulary, and skills necessary for actively listening to and appraising music performances; with particular emphasis given to musical styles and music history. Also covered in the course are the origins of musical language with explorations into musical practices, composers and repertoire of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century and Contemporary styles. Recommended for all music majors.
